Dining on St. John
Below are some of our personal favorite places on St. John. Be sure and make time to try one or two while you are on island - you won't be sorry!

Fine Dining:

Asolare Northshore Road - Cruz Bay (340) 779-4747
Unique Euro-Asian fine dining with the most beautiful sunset view on the island. High above Cruz Bay in one of the oldest estates on the island, the view is worth the price alone. Great wine list and cute bar are added amenities. Call in advance for reservations, and make sure you ask to sit out on the deck so you can watch the sun melt over the blinking lights of St. Thomas. Definitely romantic! In fact, we had our wedding reception here in 2004.

ZoZo's Gallows Point Resort - Cruz Bay (340) 693-9200
ZoZo's is pretty much everyone's favorite - from locals to tourists - and for good reason. This upscale Italian has incredible food, wine and views that are some of the best of all three on the island. Fresh fish, pastas and specialties like osso bucco and filet and lobster are always wonderful. Also, ask about the special bruschetta of the day - it is always a unique combination of toppings that change daily. Ask for a table on the railing, and get there early, as the rooftop bar has the best sunset views of any place on the island. (Except at Vida of course!)

Casual Dining:

Beach Bar Wharfside Village, Cruz Bay (340) 714-0156
Great place to people-watch, relax and have a few cold ones. Bustling outdoor bar/grill right on the beach of Cruz Bay. Excellent bar food for lunch or snacking - including great fish sandwiches, yummy wraps and burgers, and the best crab dip known to man. (Make the best Painkillers on St. John to boot!) At night, always good live music - if you are there on a night when T-Bird is playing, you're in for a special treat.

Sun Dog Cafe Mongoose Junction , Cruz Bay (340) 693-8340
Located in the middle of the beautiful Mongoose Junction shopping complex, Sun Dog Cafe is the perfect spot to enjoy a great lunch or dinner either before or after shopping. Great burgers, salads & tex-mex with daily specials. (Try the French Turnover - a special that changes daily with yummy ingredients folded into a flaky pastry and served over greens.) Great drink selections the are served in beautiful hand-painted take-home glasses. Also a great Sunday Brunch.

Rhumb Lines Meada's Plaza , Cruz Bay (340) 776-0303
Beautiful spot in the middle of a courtyard with twinkling lights and comfy seating. Specializes in Pan-Asian cuisine with a Caribbean flair without stuffy waitstaff or prices. (This is where I go when I'm craving good Pad Thai - it's some of the best I've had anywhere.)

Local Favorites:

Hercules Pate Delight Cruz Bay - across from Lumberyard (340) 776-6532
The best homemade pates (similar to an empanada) filled with either beef, chicken or salt cod are the specialty of the house of this small local stand across from the bustling Lumberyard Mall. Other local delicacies are served with flair, like johnny cakes, salt cod patties, and bull foot soup. Try them all, but whatever you do, don't miss the pates.

Sogo's Downtown Cruz Bay - (340) 779-4404
Want great West Indian food at reasonable prices? Sogo's is Cruz Bay's favorite local hangout. Fresh fish specialties, fried plantains, homemade fungi (a kind of cornmeal polenta), coconut rice and friendly service makes this the best place to go to get authentic local specialties.

Candi's BBQ Delights Cruz Bay - near Starfish Market (340) 779-1452
This new BBQ shack is the best of all worlds: Quick, friendly and awesome! Choose from steak, chicken, ribs or mahi, all served with Candi's famous BBQ sauce and two sides for $10. The Mahi is melt in your mouth good, and the homemade coleslaw is a favorite with raisins. Great location and friendly service makes this a welcome addition to St John.

Miss Lucy's Estate Friis - (340) 693-5244
It's a bit of a drive over to just past Coral Bay towards Salt Pond where Miss Lucy's is located, but it's worth it for her fantastic Sunday Brunch with live jazz. Outdoors, right next to the breezy water, under shady island trees, you can't ask for a better way to start a lazy Sunday. Great egg dishes, mimosas and the best Bloody Mary on the island just add to the great musical entertainment. Although Miss Lucy recently passed, her spirit lives on at this wornderful place.

Family Friendly:

The Lime Inn Cruz Bay - Lemon Tree Mall (340) 776-6425
One thing you can't miss while on St. John is fresh Caribbean lobster, and this is the place to go for this delicacy. Caribbean lobster is much sweeter and more tender than Maine lobster - and it is to die for. Each night the Lime Inn brings in a limited number of fresh lobsters and grills them perfectly over a charcoal fire. Make sure you make you reservations early so you won't miss out. Casual, outdoor and family-friendly, this is a great place for everyone. Also, the owner and host is just about the nicest guy on St. John.

The Infamous:

Skinny Legs - Coral Bay (340) 779-4982
Skinny Legs has the best burger and fish sandwich on the island. It's also a great place to hang out and people-watch. And, if you happen to be on St. John during football season, no worries! Skinny Legs has a satellite and 10 TVs, so you can watch all the games. What could be better than that?

Woody's Seafood Saloon - Cruz Bay - can't miss it (340) 779-4625
You can't miss Woody's - it's the place where people spill out onto the street during happy hour. Poular bar and restaurant, known for the best happy hour in town daily from 3-6pm. Friendly staff and great bar munchies, and open late - food is served until 2am. Beware: You may lose all track of time at Woody's!

The Tourist Trap - Salt Pond Bay (340) 714-0912
Is it too new to be 'infamous'? Not if you have been #1 on Trip Advisor for over 5 months and has only been open for less than a year. Yes, The Tourist Trap has all the makings of becoming a St. John classic. Literally a couple of tables and a trailer in the owner's front yard, The Tourist Trap churns out consistently good food and friendly service that makes the drive to Salt Pond worth your while. Try the famous Lobster Roll made daily with fresh Caribbean Lobster served on a buttered, toasted hot dog bun. Or, try any of the daily specials that are always a treat. Open for lunch only - closed Monday & Tuesday.
